2019 Ram 1500: What's New

This year's 2019 Ram 1500 sees a complete redesign. That doesn't mean, however, that it's abandoned what made it a success. It still has the same coil-spring suspension that gives you a smooth ride while providing outstanding hauling and towing capacity. One of the most major changes is that it's almost 225 pounds lighter than previous incarnations, while still offering a powerful and sturdy frame.

There's a new mild hybrid assist technology in the engine called eTorque. It stores electricity to help with automatic stop-start technology so that it's smooth and seamless, while also giving short bursts of extra power. There's also new optional infotainment technology that runs with the best on the market.

Performance and Configurations

The base engine is the 3.6-liter V6 which delivers 305 horsepower with 269 lb-ft of torque. There is an optional 5.7-liter V8 with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft. Both are paired to an 8-speed automatic and feature a 3.21 axle ratio and rear wheel drive, with 4WD as an optional upgrade. Lower axle ratios of 3.55 and 3.92 are also optional additions.

There are 6-seat Quad Cab and Crew Cab configurations, with 6-foot 4-inch beds in Quad cabs and the option for a short 5-foot 7-inch bed in the crew cab. At the V8 level, the new Ram 1500 offers best in class towing capacity of 12,750 pounds when properly equipped.

Technology and Features

 Among the most exciting new features on the Ram 1500 this year is an upgraded Uconnect® infotainment system which is driven by an optional 12-inch touchscreen, or a mid-tier 8.4-inch touchscreen. Starting at the 8.4-inch level, it comes standard with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ for full smartphone integration.

Even the base 5-inch touchscreen for the Uconnect® system, however, delivers solid features, with dual USB inputs, Bluetooth® connectivity, six speakers, and auxiliary audio jack. Other base features include heated mirrors, push-button start, cruise control, rearview camera, and back seat USB charging ports. Options include satellite radio, CD player, spray-in bed liner, and a range of other features.

Comfort and Ride

There's even more space and comfort than before, and the class-exclusive coil spring rear suspension delivers a ride that's more akin to a performance sedan than a pickup truck. The cabin is among the most luxurious on the market today, and the 12-inch infotainment display takes the entire experience to the next level. Overall, it's a smooth, serene, and confident driving vehicle in addition to offering outstanding performance.
