When it comes to subcompact cars, FIAT has a specific market share. People turn to this manufacturer for vehicles that have a lot of pep and are just stylish and fun to drive. They're cars that are full of personality, while also offering a great range of technology features, supreme comfort and pretty outstanding performance. They're some of the most playful and unique cars on the roads today, and FIAT drivers across Lewisburg, Sunbury and Danville are proud of their vehicles from this manufacturer.

The 500 model is one of the manufacturer's flagship vehicles, and the 2017 year brings some important changes to the table. Check out this detailed review and breakdown of the features, trim levels, options, safety ratings and ride experience you get from the 2017 FIAT 500.

2017 FIAT 500

This model year, the 2017 FIAT 500, comes with a number of important changes overall. Firstly, the multiple trim levels of past years have been pared down to just three. The 1957 Edition package has been discontinued, and the turbocharged engine is only available at one of the trim levels. Finally, the driver info display and the six-speaker Alpine stereo system are standard equipment this year.

Technology and Options

The three trim levels for the new 500 are Pop, Lounge and Abarth. They come in hatchback or convertible configurations. At the base level you get heated mirrors, keyless entry, power accessories, 7-inch color driver information display, cruise control, and split-folding seatbacks in the rear. The infotainment system is Chrysler's Uconnect driven by a 5-inch touchscreen interface. It gives you Bluetooth, voice controls and the Alpine audio system with dual USB ports and auxiliary jack. The convertible comes with parking sensors.

At higher levels, you can add extra features like chrome trim, foglights, parking sensors, auto-dim mirror, climate control, heated seats, satellite radio, upgraded suspension, upgraded brakes, performance exhaust, and upgraded infotainment with GPS navigation.

Performance

At the lower two trim levels you get a 1.4-liter four-cylinder which gives you 101 horsepower driven by a standard 6-speed automatic, and an EPA-estimated 34 mpg combined. At the Abarth top-level trim, you get a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder which gives you 160 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque via either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic (which lowers the output just a touch). You also get an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 30 mpg (27 mpg with automatic transmission).

Safety

The 2017 FIAT 500 comes with the standard safety features-airbags, antilock brakes, hill start assist, etc.-and also gives you rear parking sensors. It received 4 out of 5 stars in government crash tests, and the top Good rating from the IIHS in most tests.

Driving Experience

The interior of the 500 is decked out with a gorgeous appearance, easy-to-reach central touchscreen, and plenty of room for passengers both up front and in the rear given that this is a subcompact car. It's not the fastest car on the road, but it offers a very comfortable and serene ride quality, and there's plenty of room in the 30.2 cubic feet of storage you get with the seats folded down.
