When it comes to full-size light-duty pickup trucks, Ram is one of the top contenders for leader of  the pack. Its 1500 model offers the kind of superior performance that drivers across Lewisburg, Danville and Sunbury demand from their trucks. While most pickup manufacturers focus heavily on delivering a workhorse, Ram not only delivers the best of that, they give you great comfort and features that border on luxurious as well.

Well, it's the 2018 model year, now, and the new Ram 1500s are rolling out. They bring a number of new features this year that will only enhance the already solid reputation of this manufacturer. Let's take a look at the full features, performance and power, and configurations you'll get from the new 2018 Ram 1500, and where to test drive one yourself.

2018 Ram 1500: What's New?

This year, the 2018 Ram 1500 hits dealers with a new high-end Limited Tungsten trim, which is a full-on luxury treatment for this powerful truck. It also gets an updated appearance for the Sport trim, and the Rebel model comes with all-leather interior. There's also an 8.4-inch touchscreen interface for the infotainment system which gives you a 4G LTE wi-fi hotspot, smartphone app integration for Apple and Android, HD radio, higher resolution, and pinch and zoom function.

You also have access now to Sirius Guardian, a new interface that gives you full advanced telematics like emergency calling, remote services, roadside assistance, vehicle finder, and Send and Go. Finally, there's a new standard rearview camera, LED bed lighting, and vehicle tracking via Fleet Telematics features.

RAM 1500 Towing Capacity

As the entry-level pickup, the Ram 1500 certainly offers a complete package in one truck. The base engine, a 3.6-liter V6, delivers 305 horsepower backed up by 269 pound-feet of torque, with rear-wheel or optional four-wheel drive. Stepping up from there you can choose a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which gets 240 horsepower and a whopping 420 pound-feet of torque. At the top of the range, you can get a Hemi V-8 which kicks up 395 horses and 410 pound-feet.

The lower two engines are powered by an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the Hemi gets  a six-speed. When properly equipped the Ram 1500 has a towing capacity of up to 10,620 lbs.

The various configurations are generally as you expect from a light-duty pickup. There are three cab configurations: a regular cab, quad cab or crew cab. These can be combined with three different bed lengths: the 8-foot bed (available only with the regular cab), a 5'7 short bed, or a medium 6'4 bed.

Safety Ratings

The 1500 gets four stars overall from the NHTSA in safety, and from the IIHS, gets the highest Good rating in moderate overlap front, seat restraint and head restraint scores. Overall, between the parking sensors, rearview camera and other safety features on the Ram, you'll get a very safe pickup truck overall.
